Glucosamine FAQ's
  • Why does NS use only Glucosamine HCL?
There are four possible sources of Glucosamine: Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Glucosamine Hydroiodide, N-acetyl Glucosamine, and Glucosamine Sulfate, only two of them are recommended, the Hydrochloride and the Sulfate versions. The two glucosamines are identical in their effects, though the Hydrochloride version is more cost effective as it is a richer source of Glucosamine. Furthermore, the Glucosamine selected for the $14 million trial by the NIH (National Institute of Health) is Glucosamine HCI, supplied by Pfanstiehl Laboratories. For more information on this subject please refer to Glucosamine HCl vs. Sulfate.
  • How does Glucosamine HCL work?
Glucosamine is produced naturally in the body by chondrocytes in cartilage to help maintain and build healthy joint tissue. Chondrocytes use supplemental Glucosamine to produce more cartilage components collagen, chondroitin sulfate, hyaluronic acid and other joint constituents. More glucosamine means your body has a better chance of decreasing or eliminating pain caused by insufficient lubricants and poor shock absorption. Glucosamine is not an instant "pain killer" and will initially take 3-6 weeks before you see results.
  • What is the Daily dosage?
The recommended daily dosage is 1500mg. When an individual begins supplementation with Glucosamine, it is typical to double the dosage for the first week, and then reduce dosage to 1500 mg per day (one capsule in the A.M., one capsule in the P.M.). Some individuals have reported success in taking more than two capsules per day.

  • How pure is the glucosamine in Glucosamine ES
NutraSense uses only pure Glucosamine HCL. It is the only Glucosamine produced in North America
  • What side effects are there?
There are no known side effects to glucosamine supplementation. However, you should consult your doctor if you are an insulin dependant diabetic or if you are pregnant.

  • Are there any drug interactions with Glucosamine?
There have been no reported drug interactions with Glucosamine.
  • Where does glucosamine come from?
Glucosamine is derived from Chitin, a major component of shellfish shell. The calcium carbonate and proteins are removed from the chitin and which, in turn, is fully hydrolyzed to yield Glucosamine HCL.
  • Is all Glucosamine the same? What about quality?
NutraSense Glucosamine-ES and Glucosamine Plus Chondroitin Complex are the only Glucosamine Products sold on the internet that are manufactured with USA produced Glucosamine and Chondroitin. Most Glucosamine products offered in retail outlets and all other Glucosamine products offered on the internet are made using imported Glucosamine and Chondroitin, AND… the vast majority, over 90%, of the imported Glucosamine comes from China. WHY? The Chinese Glucosamine is much cheaper. WHY? Because the quality is not controlled, product specifications and plant sanitation are minimal, and cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) controls are not used in China which by our laws must be used here.

Furthermore, the Glucosamine selected for the $14 million trial by the NIH (National Institute of Health) is Glucosamine supplied by Pfanstiehl Laboratories, no other manufacturers produce Glucosamine that meets the NIH requirements.

There are no FDA monitored Glucosamine plants outside of the USA.
