In the recent wake of imported contaminated products, The US Food and Drug Administration warns food and drug suppliers and manufacturers “to be especially vigilant” in watching for tainted ingredients. The FDA is only able to physically inspect a small fraction (less than one percent) of the US imports, as recent articles illustrate:
- “FDA Limits Chinese Food Additive Imports”, warns the USA Today, May 2007
- “Tainted Chinese Imports Common”, headlines in the Washington Post, May 2007
- “Who’s Monitoring Chinese Food Exports?” asks The Wall Street Journal, April ‘07
- “Officials inspecting shipments after reports of tainted products” warns MSNBC News Service, May 2007
- “A Trail of Poisoned Medicine” and “Toxic Syrup has Deadly Trail” from The New York Times, May 2007
The media is making sure that the real and potential danger of imported foods and supplements is not lost on the American Consumer. Just last month the FDA detained 107 food imports from China and 1,000 shipments of tainted Chinese dietary supplements and counterfeit Chinese medicines. A few of the latest scandals include:
- Diethylene glycol, a deadly counterfeit glycerin commonly used in drugs like cough syrup, in toothpaste, food, and other products
- Melamine-laden wheat gluten found in pet food and animal feed
- Mushrooms laced with illegal pesticides
- Dried fruit preserved with a cancer-causing chemical
Just like our Mexican border, the FDA is only able to catch a very small percentage of illegal, adulterated foods and drugs. It is up to manufacturers like NutraSense and retailers like yourself to provide a safe alternative….products made in America from American ingredients. The NutraSense Company (Shawnee Mission, KS) is the only supplier of Glucosamine and Chondroitin Sulfate products that are “All-American.”
Buy American, it makes NutraSense!
