Review Supports Glucosamine’s Safety
Press Release - January 26, 2011

Glucosamine supplements do NOT adversely affect glucose metabolism when consumed at typical levels, says a new review of the science.

Writing in Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews, scientists commissioned by Cargill report that the concentration of glucosamine in plasma following supplementation is several orders of magnitude below levels reported to impair glucose metabolism in vitro.

The review was welcomed by Cargill, which supplies the Regenasure glucosamine ingredient said to be suitable for vegetarians and those with shellfish allergies.

"Cargill is committed to the safety of its products," said Mark Christiansen, Acidulants product line manager for Cargill Corn Milling North America. "We felt it was important to investigate the on-going concern of glucosamine consumption related to diabetes. This review indicates that, at normal consumption levels, consumers can safely use glucosamine."

The NutraSense Company is proud to offer Cargill’s Regenasure® vegetarian glucosamine in both the NutraSense Glucosamine-ES and the Glucosamine Plus Chondroitin supplements. This glucosamine is the only vegetarian glucosamine available that is both sourced and manufactured in the USA and GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status determined by the FDA. It’s shellfish-allergy free, Kosher certified, and produced in a HACCP facility under strictly controlled conditions adhering to cGMP (good manufacturing practices). This rigorous control of raw material is yet another standard of Cargill Inc.’s, and ensures a pure and contaminant-free product.
